New funds for fire departments
A trio of fire departments from Trinity South have received funding from the Department of Municipal Affairs.
Fire departments in Heart’s Content, Heart’s Delight-Islington, and New Perlican will split $36,570 to be used for personal protection equipment. The funds are administered through Fire and Emergency Services — Newfoundland and Labrador.
Heart’s Delight-Islington will receive $16,427; New Perlican will get $12,292; and Heart’s Content is set to receive $7,757.

The overall cost of the fire equipment will be approximately $43,000, to be shared between the province and municipal governments under the Municipal Capital Works Program’s 90/10 cost-sharing ratio.
In 2010, the provincial government budgeted $1 million in expenditures on fire equipment, and $2.5 million on firefighting vehicles.
