Former mayor wins byelection
Former Hant’s Harbour mayor Holly Smith will be returning to the council chambers, following the results of the Nov. 23 byelection.
Holly Smith received 46 votes compared to Cecil Soper’s 11 to claim the seat vacated by former councillor Terry Tuck, who was elected in last year’s municipal election.
“I’m pleased to be back,” said Smith, who last served as mayor 10 years ago. She said council will soon be preparing its 2011 municipal budget.
The date for the next council meeting had not been set when Smith spoke with The Compass on Nov. 24, but she said it will be held within the next two weeks.
