School planning family fun nights
Davis Elementary is planning to offer a series of monthly “ family fun nights” for families of students who attend the Carbonear school.
Children from birth to Grade 5 will be welcome at the events.
Vice-principalCathy Bishop said the program is designed “to offer parents and their children an opportunity to interact and spend time together through family-based activities, including games, life-skills workshops and parent information sessions.”
Bullying, discipline, nutrition and homework are among the issues, which may be discussed at the sessions.
The series of monthly sessions will kick off this Friday, Jan. 28 with a meet and greet.
The sessions will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and children must be accompanied by a family member 18 years or older.
Those who attend will also have an opportunity to help plan the next fun night scheduled for Feb. 25.
Eastern Health is funding the family fun night program through a $5,000 grant from its Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Fund.
