School plan­ning fam­ily fun nights

Davis Ele­men­tary is plan­ning to of­fer a se­ries of monthly “ fam­ily fun nights” for fam­i­lies of stu­dents who at­tend the Car­bon­ear school.

Chil­dren from birth to Grade 5 will be wel­come at the events.

Vice-prin­ci­palCathy Bishop said the pro­gram is de­signed “to of­fer par­ents and their chil­dren an op­por­tu­nity to in­ter­act and spend time to­gether through fam­ily-based ac­tiv­i­ties, in­clud­ing games, life-skills work­shops and par­ent in­for­ma­tion ses­sions.”

Bul­ly­ing, dis­ci­pline, nutrition and home­work are among the is­sues, which may be dis­cussed at the ses­sions.

The se­ries of monthly ses­sions will kick off this Fri­day, Jan. 28 with a meet and greet.

The ses­sions will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and chil­dren must be ac­com­pa­nied by a fam­ily mem­ber 18 years or older.

Those who at­tend will also have an op­por­tu­nity to help plan the next fun night sched­uled for Feb. 25.

East­ern Health is fund­ing the fam­ily fun night pro­gram through a $5,000 grant from its Com­mu­nity Ad­dic­tions Pre­ven­tion and Mental Health Pro­mo­tion Fund.
