Crusaders high on victory
The St. Francis Lady Crusaders female basketball team defeated all comers at an exhibition tournament held at the Harbour Grace school on Jan. 22.
The squad of Grade 7 and under players won all three of its game, including a 53-52 thriller over Stella Maris Academy of Trepassey in a contest that decided first place.
Top scorers for the Lady Crusaders were Mallory Gillespie with 16 points, while both Sarah Hiscock and Emily Kennedy had 10 points.
In its first game, the Lady Crusaders defeated Holy Cross Elementary of Holyrood 45-25. Top scorers for the Crusaders were Gina Pynn, with 14 points, Emily Kennedy, with eight, and Brianna Roberts and Sarah Hiscock each chipped in with six points.
In the second game the Crusaders once again proved to be victorious with a 48-22 win over Tricentia Academy of Arnold’s Cove. Top scorers for the Crusaders were Sarah Hiscock, Gina Pynn and Shelby Oates, all of whom scored eight points.

The Lady Crusaders are preparing for the provincials, scheduled for St. John’s in March.
