School launches Family Fun Night
Approximately 200 children and parents turned out at Davis Elementary Jan. 28 to help launch the Carbonear school’s Family Fun Night.
The event opened with a game of Musical Hoops as an icebreaker.
A number of stations were set up around the school where parents and children took part in their favourite activities.
Sessions included board and literacy games, Tumble books on a Smartboard, playdough, pre-school and physical activities in the gym, speed stacking and Dance, Dance Revolution.
“ There was something for everyone and many ideas were generated for upcoming events,” said Zoe Hamilton, physical education teacher at the school.
The next Family Fun Night is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25 when bullying information sessions geared toward parents and children will be offered.
Similar stations will be set up with consideration given to input from parents during the last session. Family Fun Night is open to families of students attending Davis Elementary along with older siblings.
Sessions run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and children must be accompanied by a family member 18 years or older.
Pointing out, “our first families had a lot of fun,” Hamilton said, “ we hope to see more attend. The opportunity to meet new family friends through shared experiences can’t be missed.”
