Car­bon­ear Win­ter Car­ni­val kicks off next week

Car­bon­ear’s an­nual Win­ter Car­ni­val will get un­der way next week. The 10-day event opens March 3 and con­tin­ues un­til Sun­day, March 13.

The car­ni­val will open next Thurs­day evening with a fam­ily glow walk at the Car­bon­ear Swim­ming Pool and Re­cre­ation Com­plex. Frosty the Snow­man will be on hand to lead the pa­rade.

The fi­nal episode of the an­nual Belle of the Ball “ beauty pageant” is sched­uled to take place Satur­day, March 5 at Fong’s.

Some of the most “at­trac­tive” con­tes­tants from past events are ex­pected be on hand for the crowning of this year’s ‘queen,’ ac­cord­ing to car­ni­val or­ga­niz­ers.

The car­ni­val will wind up Sun­day, March 13 with the Miss Car­bon­ear pageant at the Sheila NaGeira Theatre.

Rob But­ton, the town’s re­cre­ation di­rec­tor prom­ises, “ be­tween (open­ing and clos­ing) dates we will have a fun-filled week with lots of events for all ages.”

They will in­clude: se­niors’ dances, slid­ing, snow paint­ing, skat­ing, fam­ily pan­cake sup­per, and Frosty’s birth­day party.
