Lo­cal teen chas­ing crown

Ni­cole Kennedy of Spa­niard’s Bay is one of 20 con­tes­tants in the run­ning for Miss Teen New­found­land and Labrador 2011.

The pageant is sched­uled to take place at the Arts and Cul­ture Cen­tre in St. John’s from March 17-20.

This marks the 15th an­niver­sary of the event.

Kennedy is a 14-year-old stu­dent at Holy Redeemer School in Spa­niard’s Bay. She is heav­ily in­volved in sports, school events, com­mit­tees and vol­un­teer work, and main­tains an ex­cel­lence aca­demic record.

The win­ner is se­lected on the ba­sis of per­son­al­ity, aca­demics, fit­ness, pub­lic speak­ing abil­ity, and on-stage ca­sual and evening wear com­pe­ti­tions.

Or­ga­niz­ers de­scribe the event as a search for the most well-rounded young lady in New­found­land & Labrador.

The 2007 win­ner was Danielle Se­ward of Heart’s De­light-Is­ling­ton.

Six in­di­vid­ual awards are up for grabs at the 2011 event, in­clud­ing the Peo­ple’s Choice Award, which is given to the con­tes­tant who re­ceives the most on-line votes. It has no bear­ing on the over­all score.

To cast a vote, send an e-mail to peo­pleschoice2011@ nf­pageants. net, with the name of the con­tes­tant you would like to vote for in the sub­ject line. Par­tic­i­pants can vote once daily.

The win­ner, as well as two ad­di­tional del­e­gates from the pageant, ad­vance to the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant in Toronto. It’s said to be the largest na­tional teen pageant in Canada.

The reign­ing Miss Teen New­found­land and Labrador is Ge­orgina Bar­bour from Wit­less Bay.
