Worship Centre mortgage -free

The Compass - - TRINITY SOUTH - BY JOY FRENCH-COLEMAN

The Family Worship Centre in Harbour Grace marked a significant milestone last fall with the symbolic burning of the mortgage.

It is something that many a church vestry, town committee or homeowner looks forward to with great anticipation.

Present for this great occasion were Harbour Grace Mayor Don Coombs, Rev. Shirley Noseworthy, Coun. Wendall Hunt and many of our local talented musicians, along with the church congregation, family members and personal friends of Pastor Wallace and Mrs. Judy White.

It was a joyous celebration and it tied in with their Christmas banquet. Some of the interesting facts regarding the church property and the Whites’ ministry is quite interesting. Their ministry started in Harbour Grace in 1979 at a meeting in a friend’s home on Water Street, and then moved on from there.

The present building, known then as Hunt’s Restaurant and Take-out, went up for sale and the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland purchased it, and with many renovations the Whites stayed on as ministers in this building until 1985. They were transferred to the Northern Peninsula for three years and then returned to reside in Carbonear.

When the property on Bannerman Lake Road, which had been sold back to the Hunt family, became available again, Pastor and Mrs. White and son Jason, after much prayer and discussion, decided to rent the property on a rent-to-own basis, hence 14 years later a mortgage burning ceremony.

To quote Pastor White: “ The final payment was supposed to be in November 2010, but with God’s help and the faithful support of our dedicated members, we were able to make the final payment in June 2010. We decided to wait until November to make it a double celebration at our Christmas banquet, with much thanksgiving to God, our church family and our many friends in our beautiful town of Harbour Grace.”

Over the past 14 years many have served on the board of directors with much love and devotion. The first directors were Mr. Chris Parsons, Mrs. Maggie Verge (now deceased), Mrs. Mae Verge and Mrs. Clarice Crane (also deceased). Others include Mrs. Inez Cran, Ms. Shirley Taylor, Mr. Cecil Soper, Mr. Eric Pynn (deceased), Mr. Evan Clarke, Mr. John Wells, Mrs. Kathleen Clarke and Mrs. Paula Snow.

The present board consists of the following: Mrs. Mae Verge, Mrs. Tanya Baggs and Mr. Chris Parsons. Pastor White was noted to say that they are glad to be a part of the wonderful town of Harbour Grace. Their ministry is an open door to work along with and support the other ministries in the town and to make it a great place to live and be a blessing to all.
