SPARKES, Mrs. Florence Jean — Passed peace­fully away at the Car­bon­ear Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal on Satur­day, March 19, 2011, Mrs. Florence Jean Sparkes, aged 81 years, of Shearstown. Pre­de­ceased by her par­ents: Ed­ward and Florence (nee Frost) Brad­bury; hus­band: Graham Sparkes; son: Jimmy; great-grand­chil­dren: twin girls, An­drea and Becky; brothers: Doug and Don (Mav); sis­ter: Alice Brown; brothers-in-law: Marv Row­land and Ed Halder. Leav­ing to mourn three sons: Gary (He­len), Dou­glas (An­nMarie) and Terry (Verly); one daugh­ter: Joy (Ron) Brazil; four sis­ters: Irene (Kevin) Joy, Ruth Row­land, Au­drey Halder and Grace ( Johnny) Kay; two brothers: Bruce (Daphne) and Nel­son (Marg); four grand­chil­dren: Gary (An­nette), Jen­nifer Sparkes (Chad Parsons), Lori and Rhodie (An­drea); seven great-grand­chil­dren: Leah, Joy, Ryan, Ker­stin, Liam, Joshua and Chloe; sis­ters-in-law: Rex­ine Brad­bury, An­nie Cod­ding­ton (David - de­ceased) and Sharon (David - de­ceased) Sparkes; brothers-in-law: Max Brown, Tom (Mary) Sparkes and Regi­nald (Vi­o­let - de­ceased). Also home care work­ers Betty Smith and Mau­reen Bell; long-time em­ployee and friend Dave Bad­cock and dear friends Ed and Val Hod­der, Jean Hill­yard and a large cir­cle of other rel­a­tives and friends. Visi­ta­tion took place on Sun­day, March 20 at 7 to 9 p.m. and on Mon­day, March 21 at 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Rev­erend Dean Sel­lars con­ducted the fu­neral ser­vice at Trin­ity United Church, Shearstown on Tues­day, March 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. In­ter­ment was at United Church Ceme­tery, Shearstown. Pall­bear­ers were Terry Sparkes, Gary Sparkes (Sr.), Dou­glas Sparkes, Gary Sparkes ( Jr.), Chad Parsons and Ron Brazil. Fu­neral ar­range­ments en­trusted to Moore’s Fu­neral Home, Bay Roberts.

ROOD, RUTH (Hue) — Passed away peace­fully at St. Clare’s Mercy Hos­pi­tal, St. John’s, NL on March 21, 2011, aged 92, af­ter a long, ful­fill­ing and happy life. Pre­de­ceased by her lov­ing hus­band Rex [1996], brother Frank Hue (Mar­ion), sis­ter Florence (Chancey Cur­rie), sis­ter Grace (Bert Butt) and sis­ter Mary (Fergie Ver­non). She leaves with won­der­ful mem­o­ries her daugh­ter Su­san and de­voted son-in-law John Maun­der of Pouch Cove, NL with whom she resided; sis­ter-in-law Edith Rood, Dart­mouth, NS; five nieces, three neph­ews, and three cousins; spe­cial friends Muriel Mar­shall, Clarke’s Beach, NL, Phyl­lis and Jim Whe­lan, Clarke’s Beach, NL, and Elsie Bow­er­ing, Co­ley’s Point, NL; as well as many fond ac­quain­tances. Ruth has do­nated her body to the Me­mo­rial Univer­sity of New­found­land School of Medicine for med­i­cal re­search. As per her wishes, there will be no me­mo­rial ser­vice.
