Slam dunk suc­cess for Tri­con stu­dents

Stu­dents in grades 4, 5 and 6 from Tri­con El­e­men­tary in Bay de Verde have been hav­ing great fun play­ing bas­ket­ball over the past cou­ple of week­ends, and made quite an im­pres­sion at the an­nual Slam Dunk Tour­na­ment is hosted by Bishop Abra­ham El­e­men­tary in St. John’s.

The boys played March 11-12, and the girls played on March 18-19.

Tri­con had so many boys in grades 4, 5 and 6 want­ing to play bas­ket­ball this year that they had to send two boys’ teams to the an­nual tour­na­ment. Both teams played well and had to face each other in the A divi­sion fi­nal. Team A won the gold medal and Team B set­tled for sil­ver.

The girl’s team played ex­tremely well and went un­de­feated for the en­tire tour­na­ment. They won the 4A cham­pi­onship game against St. Mary’s El­e­men­tary of St. John’s to cap­ture the gold medal.
