Legion makes donations
At its recent annual honours and awards banquet on March 26, Branch No. 9 (Cpl. Matthew Brazil) of the Royal Canadian Legion in Spaniard’s Bay made several significant donations to various charitable groups.
Nearly $1,800 was presented to the Cystic Fibrosis Society, representing the net proceeds of the 30th annual Cystic Fibrosis invitational darts tournament, held in late February. Over the past three decades, in excess of $ 60,000 has been raised for this very worthy cause.
In addition, the branch donated $200 each to the fire department, Holy Redeemer Anglican church, the recreation committee, heritage society, environmental committee, and the army cadet corps.
Also, a donation of $1,000 was made to the branch by the ladies’ auxiliary in aid of its various charitable causes.
Various individuals received pins, medals and certificates for long-time service and contributions, especially Comrade Ron Power and Comrade George Evans, who were awarded life membership by the branch for long and dedicated service.
