Le­gion makes do­na­tions

At its re­cent an­nual hon­ours and awards ban­quet on March 26, Branch No. 9 (Cpl. Matthew Brazil) of the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion in Spa­niard’s Bay made sev­eral sig­nif­i­cant do­na­tions to var­i­ous char­i­ta­ble groups.

Nearly $1,800 was pre­sented to the Cys­tic Fi­bro­sis So­ci­ety, rep­re­sent­ing the net pro­ceeds of the 30th an­nual Cys­tic Fi­bro­sis in­vi­ta­tional darts tour­na­ment, held in late Fe­bru­ary. Over the past three decades, in ex­cess of $ 60,000 has been raised for this very wor­thy cause.

In ad­di­tion, the branch do­nated $200 each to the fire depart­ment, Holy Redeemer Anglican church, the re­cre­ation com­mit­tee, her­itage so­ci­ety, en­vi­ron­men­tal com­mit­tee, and the army cadet corps.

Also, a do­na­tion of $1,000 was made to the branch by the ladies’ aux­il­iary in aid of its var­i­ous char­i­ta­ble causes.

Var­i­ous in­di­vid­u­als re­ceived pins, medals and cer­tifi­cates for long-time ser­vice and con­tri­bu­tions, es­pe­cially Com­rade Ron Power and Com­rade Ge­orge Evans, who were awarded life mem­ber­ship by the branch for long and ded­i­cated ser­vice.
