Local teams go 1-8 at girls’ provincial tournament
A trio of local schools battled hard at the 2011 Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association East Coast Grade 9 girls’ C tournament at Baltimore High in Ferryland from April 1-3. But wins were hard to come by.
Persalvic School was the lone team to post a victory, barely defeating Bay Robert’s Amalgamated Academy 2322 in an extremely close contest.
The school from Victoria lost 55-22 in its first game against the host school, and posted its second loss of the tournament in its final game, a 66-30 defeat at the hands of Clarenville High.
St. Francis ofHarbour Gracecame close to earning two wins, losing by two points in a pair of games — a 29-27 loss to Laval High from Placentia and a 31-29 loss to St. Lawrence. In the school’s only other game, Mobile Central High beat St. Francis 54-14.
In Amalgamated’s other two games, the school lost 4120 to Clarenville and 48-31 to Baltimore High.
Mobile went on to defeat Baltimore by 10 points in the championship game on April 3.
