Holy Redeemer lose in semi

Fol­low­ing an un­de­feated run in round-robin play that gave them the top spot in the B divi­sion, the Holy Redeemer boys’ bas­ket­ball team fell short in its quest to win the New­found­land and Labrador Bas­ket­ball As­so­ci­a­tion East Coast Grade 9 boys’ C tour­na­ment at Brother Rice Ju­nior High in St. John’s.

The team from Spa­niard’s Bay lost 43-31 in the semi-fi­nals to St. John Bosco of Shea Heights. Laval High School went on to de­feat St. John Bosco in the fi­nal by a score of 50-30 to claim the pro­vin­cial banner.

Holy Redeemer opened the tour­na­ment on April 1 with a 46-26 win over Per­salvic School from Vic­to­ria, then dou­bled-up on the host team 40-20 the next morn­ing be­fore pulling out a tough win against Mo­bile by a score of 37-31. The three round-robin wins set up a semi-fi­nal match against the team from Shea Heights on April 3.

Per­salvic and Amal­ga­mated Academy in Bay Roberts both had tough week­ends, fin­ish­ing 0-3 in their re­spec­tive di­vi­sions.

Af­ter los­ing to Holy Redeemer, Per­salvic lost 45-25 against Mo­bile and 44-35 to Brother Rice. Amal­ga­mated lost its first game of the tour­na­ment to Laval by a score of 46-26, then dropped a close one to St. John Bosco, 60-52, be­fore bowingout with a 51-31 loss to Bal­ti­more School from Fer­ry­land.
