Student bemoans poor road conditions

The Compass - - TRINITY SOUTH -

Dear editor,

I am a concerned driver from Heart’s Content and I wish to express my thoughts on the poor road conditions in Heart’s Content and the nearby communities.

As a student at Carbonear Collegiate I have to rely on driving myself or taking a bus to school every day, which means an extensive amount of travelling on the main roads.

Driving on the main roads is like driving an obstacle course, constantly dodging oversized potholes. These holes are not only a nuisance to drivers by causing damage to our vehicles but they can also be a safety hazard by contributing to many car accidents each year.

Driving across the Heart’s Content Barrens with the poor shape of the road along with poor weather can be very dangerous to drivers. Hitting these potholes can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle and either go into the ditch or even oncoming traffic. These accidents can often cause serious injuries, or worse, death.

In conclusion, these roads around Heart’s Content are unacceptable. I believe that we all need to come together so we can get the government to fix the roads and solve this safety hazard.
