Calling out all Christians

The Compass - - EDITORIAL OPINION -

Dear editor,

Hat’s off to Rev. Mary Harris of Lewin’s Cove on the Burin Peninsula for publicly speaking out about our Christian faith and heritage, on which our country was founded, I might add.

Matthew 6:33 (Seek ye first the kingdom of God) is on our Newfoundland and Labrador Coat of Arms. Now they’ve changed the time for the leaders’ debate in the federal election to accommodate Quebec and the hockey game. Will the same be done here for us Christians regarding the advance voting time being held over our very sacred Easter Weekend?

Rev. Harris made some tremendously valid points that this change should take place. Apparently, no consideration was given by the powers that be to the fact that this is Easter.

Come on, fellow Christians. Speak out. It looks to me that we are becoming the silent minority, more to our shame. Let’s do some self-examination to see what values we have in the name of Christ.

What’s really happening here? Are we standing strong or being walked over?
