The Compass - - EDITORIAL OPINION -

A lucky bounce here or there, and the Ascension Collegiate Astros boys’ ball hockey team might have advanced to the championship game of the Boys’ 4A tournament in Stephenville

But the Bay Roberts squad fell short, winning one game and losing a pair in the six-team tournament, held April 15-16.

Facing Lewisporte Collegiate in the playoff round, Ascension lost a tight one by a score of 8-7. Bradley Bishop netted a hat trick, Cody Batten scored a pair, and Robbie Earle and Garrett Simms each scored one goal for the Astros.

The Astros got off to a strong start in its first game of roundrobin play, defeating Menihek High from Labrador City 13-7. Batten and Bishop led the way for Ascension with four goals each. Andrew Neil and Phillip Russell each notched a pair of goals, while Simms chipped in with a single for the Astros.

It lost its next game to Discovery Collegiate from Bonavista by a score of 7-4. Jordan Drover, Earle, Batten and Russell all scored for Ascension.

Tony Bellarose was in net for all three games Ascension played.

Mount Pearl Senior High won the championship game by defeating Discovery Collegiate 6-5 in double overtime.
