Astros winless in Ontario
The Ascension Collegiate Astros’ female basketball team went winless in four tries at a prestigious junior tournament in Hamilton, Ont., but likely had a fun experience competing with unfamiliar teams in an urban setting.
The Astros played in Division 3 of the Junior Girls Invitational hosted by Blessed Sacrament Basketball from April 15-17. It placed last out of the six teams competing, with the Sudbury Selects claiming gold with a decisive 68-33 victory over the Guelph Phoenix in the championship game.
Opening the tournament against the host teams, the Astros proved to be overmatched by its opponent in a 42-16 loss. Facing the eventual gold medal winners in its next contest, the Bay Robert team was defeated 79-36.
The Astros fared better in its final two games, losing 42-29 to the Woodstock Chill and 43-33 to the silver medallists from Guelph. The host team from Hamilton claimed the bronze medal.
