Astros win­less in On­tario

The As­cen­sion Col­le­giate Astros’ fe­male bas­ket­ball team went win­less in four tries at a pres­ti­gious ju­nior tour­na­ment in Hamil­ton, Ont., but likely had a fun ex­pe­ri­ence com­pet­ing with un­fa­mil­iar teams in an ur­ban set­ting.

The Astros played in Divi­sion 3 of the Ju­nior Girls In­vi­ta­tional hosted by Blessed Sacra­ment Bas­ket­ball from April 15-17. It placed last out of the six teams com­pet­ing, with the Sud­bury Se­lects claim­ing gold with a de­ci­sive 68-33 vic­tory over the Guelph Phoenix in the cham­pi­onship game.

Open­ing the tour­na­ment against the host teams, the Astros proved to be over­matched by its op­po­nent in a 42-16 loss. Fac­ing the even­tual gold medal win­ners in its next con­test, the Bay Robert team was de­feated 79-36.

The Astros fared bet­ter in its fi­nal two games, los­ing 42-29 to the Wood­stock Chill and 43-33 to the sil­ver medal­lists from Guelph. The host team from Hamil­ton claimed the bronze medal.
