A 15-year-old female from the Bay Roberts area was sentenced to one year of probation at provincial court in Harbour Grace June 6 after she entered guilty pleas on two counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

The charges stem from two separate incidents earlier this year.

In the first, police received a call from the female’s mother, claiming the daughter was attempting to stab her younger brother.

When police arrived, they found the house in disarray. Many things were broken and a door had been torn in half.

The young boy was found in the washroom, where he had been hiding from his sister. Police noted that the washroom door had been stabbed multiple times.

The student was taken police custody and charged.

A few weeks later, she was charged with two more counts of assault after she and a friend initiated a physical altercation with two girls at their school.

Both incidents were given a total of one year of probation, to run consecutivelyl. The student was also ordered to seek counselling by the court.
