Folk festival slated for Carbonear
For the first time in four years a folk festival is being staged in Carbonear this summer. The new festival also has a new organization and venue.
The inaugural Celtic Roots Folk Festival is tuning up for Saturday, July 9 at the Knights of Columbus on Adelaide Street.
Weather permitting the event will go ahead outdoors on the grounds of the K. of C. In the event of inclement weather, it will move inside the K. of C. clubrooms.
The festival is the brainchild of a new generation of traditional folk musicians and folk music enthusiasts — all in their 20s — who would like to revive the traditional folk music scene in the town and area.
Instead of bringing in big-name, highpriced commercial acts, organizers say they want to start from scratch with a festival that takes traditional music back to its roots by focusing on the real authentic folk artists who play music in their kitchens for family and friends.
