Butt’s Esso loses dou­ble-header

The Car­bon­ear men’s slo-pitch league played a dou­ble-header Mon­day, June 27. Butt’s Esso lost both matches by wide mar­gins.

In the first game, Rock Hard Con­struc­tion rolled over Butt’s 13-7 on the strength of three hits each from Gord King, Jim King and Trevor Smith. Stephen King and Randy Moores had two hits each. Rod­ney Green, Brad Gal­lant, David King, Ryan Dean, Bradley Har­ris and David Riggs had one hit each.

Stephen King tossed the win, while Ger­ard Grif­fin was tagged with the pitch­ing loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Jeff Parsons with three hits, one of which was a home­run. Ryan Parsons and Jody Doyle had two hits each. Chad Parsons, Blair Parsons, Den­nis King and Chris Parsons had one hit each in a los­ing cause.

In the sec­ond match-up, Butt’s Esso lost by an even wider (16-9) mar­gin to West Side Char­lies.

West Side tri­umphed on the strength of three hits from Tim Brake and Mike Squires.

Top bat­ters for the win­ner were Tim Brake with three hits, in­clud­ing a home­run. Bradley Har­ris had two hits, one of which was a home­run. Mike Squires had three hits. Paul O’Leary, Mike White­way, Roy Flight and Ryan Dean had two hits each, while Sam White had one hit in help­ing with the win.

Sam White tossed the win, while Ger­ard Grif­fin was tagged with the loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Ryan Parsons and Andrew Butt with three hits each. Blair Parsons had two hits, in­clud­ing a home­run. Jeff Parsons, Jody Doyle and Shane Lambert had two hits each, while Chris Parsons had one hit in a los­ing cause.

Be­fore start­ing the first game be­tween Rock Hard Con­struc­tion and Butt’s Esso, play­ers lined up for a mo­ment of si­lence to hon­our the late Gord Dean, who passed away in Jan­uary. Dean um­pired the slo-pitch league for 32 years and also served on the ex­ec­u­tive for a num­ber of years as um­pire-in-chief.
