Ac­tion heat­ing up in Car­bon­ear slo-pitch

Rock Hard Con­struc­tion edged West Side Char­lies 9-8 in the first game played Thurs­day night, June 30 in Car­bon­ear Men’s slo-pitch soft­ball ac­tion at the Car­bon­ear Re­cre­ation Com­plex.

Rock Hard took the match on the strength of four hits from Keith Ped­dle.

Rod­ney Green tossed the win on the mound, while Sam White suf­fered the pitch­ing loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Paul O’ Leary, Sam White and Roy Flight, with one hit each.

Butt’s bounces back

Af­ter los­ing its first two reg­u­lar sea­son games, Butt’s Esso bounced back to shat­ter Rock Hard Con­struc­tion 24-5 in the sec­ond match of the June 30 dou­ble-header

Butt’s ham­mered Rock Hard on the strength of two homers from Stephen Peach and one from Blair Parsons. Peach and Parsons both fin­ished with three hits, while Andrew Butt reached base four times.

Ryan Parsons, Den­nis King, Charl Clarke and Shane Lambert also had three hits for Butt’s.

Ger­ard Grif­fin tossed the win, while Gord King suf­fered the pitch­ing loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Jim King, Trevor Smith and Ryan Dean, with two hits each.

Pow­ell strokes four hits

With two home runs from Mike White­way and one from Mat Pow­ell, West Side Char­lies got by Butt’s Esso 18-13 in the first game on Mon­day, July 4.

Top bat­ters for the win­ning team were Mat Pow­ell with four hits, in­clud­ing a home run, and John Jac­ques had four hits. Mike White­way had three hits, two of which were home runs. Paul O’Leary and Sam White had three each.

Sam White tossed the pitch­ing win, while Ger­ard Grif­fin was tagged with the loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Ryan Parsons and Jeff Parsons, with three hits each.

In the sec­ond game on July 4, West Side Char­lies out­lasted Rock Hard Con­struc­tion 14-11, on the strength of three hits from Paul O’Leary and a home run from Mike Squires.

Sam White tossed the win, while Rod­ney Green suf­fered the loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Randy Moores and Trevor Smith, with three hits each.

Butt’s edges Rock Hard

In the first game played Thurs­day night, July 7, Butt’s Esso edged Rock Hard Con­struc­tion 16-15, on the strength of home runs from Blair Parsons, Jeff Parsons and Den­nis King.

Top bat­ters for the win­ning team were Jeff Parsons, with three hits, in­clud­ing a homer. Charl Clarke and Andrew Butt had three hits each.

Ger­ard Grif­fin tossed the win on the pitch­ing mound, while Stephen King was tagged with the loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Stephen King with five hits and David King with four hits. Randy Moores and Ryan Dean had two each.

West Side ham­mers Butt’s

In the sec­ond Thurs­day night match, West Side Char­lies ham­mered Butt’s Esso 23-12, on the strength of a pair of home runs from Tim Brake and one from Mat Pow­ell lead­ing the way.

Top bat­ters for the win­ning team were Tim Brake with five hits, in­clud­ing two home runs. Paul O’ Leary, Grant Tobin and Keith Ped- dle had four hits each.

Sam White tossed the win on the pitch­ing mound while Ger­ard Grif­fin was tagged with the loss.

Top bat­ters for the los­ing team were Den­nis King with three hits, one of which was a home run. Cory Clarke had three hits, in­clud­ing a homer. Charl Clarke had three hits.
