Ridley Hall an eyesore

The Compass - - EDITORIAL OPINION -

Dear editor,

People are getting themselves all worked up over a building — Ridley hall — that the Town of Harbour Grace neither owns or controls.

It’s privately owned and has had nothing done to it since it was purchased in 2000. It has been destroyed by fire and now is being destroyed by nature.

Maybe we should listen to the powers that be ( Nature) and demolish the building. It is, after all, just a building. Its history is in peoples’ minds and books and will not disappear. Let it go.

Remove the entire insides, while preventing the walls from collapsing somehow. Gut the building completely. Make it a ruin, then turn it into a park. Of course, this costs a lot of money, so maybe all those who want to preserve the building can donate their time and money to such a project.

Anyway, it’s time to do something about this building. LOVE IT OR LOOSE IT!
