Playground funding announced for Green’s Harbour
The Green’s Harbour Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the provincial government’s capital grant program to assist with the purchase and installation of equipment at the community playground.
“ This funding is being used to help purchase and install various pieces of equipment, including swings, slides, teeter-totters and more,” said Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Terry French.
“ This new addition to the town will greatly enhance the opportunity for children and youth to enjoy healthy and fun outdoor activities.”
The Green’s Harbour Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest investments, added French.
“Investing in playgrounds for our youth will provide an opportunity to increase recreational activity,” said Trinity-Bay de Verde MHA Charlene Johnson, who is also Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services.
“ This will have long-term positive impacts for their physical, social and mental well-being and is a very welcome announcement for our area residents.”
The provincial government allocated $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province in this year’s budget.
Since the launch of the recreation and sport strategy in 2007, more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
