CBN Bull­dogs win­less at pro­vin­cial mid­get play­downs

The Con­cep­tion Bay North Bull­dogs came away win­less from the pro­vin­cial mid­get AAA base­ball cham­pi­onships in Cor­ner Brook on July 24.

The Bull­dogs lost all three of its round-robin games, fall­ing 8-3 to the St. John’s Cap­i­tals, 11-7 to Grand Fall­sWind­sor and 10-4 to Cor­ner Brook.

Cor­ner Brook de­feated St. John’s 2-0 in the cham­pi­onship game, which was played at Ju­bilee Field, and fin­ished the tour­na­ment with an un­blem­ished record.

Mem­bers of the Bull­dogs in­clude: Jared Adams, Justin Coombs, Matthew Coombs, Bran­don Crocker, Jor­dan Drover, Mitchell Drover, Travis Drover, Tyson Drover, Ja­cob Lane, Cody Meaney, Zachary Mercer, Zachary Nose­wor­thy, An­drews Parsons, Wil­liam Rose, Bradley Sparkes, Robert Stockley, man­ager Cindy Pike, and coaches Scott Mercer and Cody Mercer.

The team’s core is com­prised of play­ers from the Town of Uppe Is­land Cove, and con­sists of play­ers be­tween the ages of 15 to 17.

The team is gear­ing up for its big­gest chal­lenge yet — the 2011 mid­get cham­pi­onships in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Bull­dogs won the right to rep­re­sent this prov­ince af­ter win­ning a na­tional qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment in St. John’s last fall.

The tour­na­ment takes place from Aug. 18-22.
