In a story which appeared in the July 12 issue of The Compass, it was reported: “Harbour Grace is the only volunteer fire brigade on the Avalon outside the capital city trained and equipped to handle high-angle and cold water rescue calls.”

The Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade provided that information to the paper during the course of an interview on the fact the brigade is to receive a new multi-function rescue/fire-fighting vehicle later this year.

Wayne Worthman, chief of the Heart’s Delight-Islington Volunteer Fire Department, has since contacted The Compass to inform the paper that: “Our volunteer fire brigade is also equipped and trained to handle both highangle and cold water calls, and have been trained to do so for many years.”

The chief went on to say: “ We take pride in knowing our volunteer firemen are trained to better serve and protect the citizens of Heart’s DelightIslington, and knowing we are able and capable of handling high-angle and cold water rescue calls, should the need arise.”
