The Compass - - OPINION -

Sheina Lerman of Heart’s Delight will represent the New Democratic Party in the district of Trinity-Bay de Verde in the October 11 provincial general election.

Lerman won the nomination by acclamation on Aug. 18.

The NDP candidate, who has worked in adult education and communications, says her main reason for running is what she sees as provincial neglect of rural Newfoundland and Labrador.

“How can a provincial government spend a small fortune on marketing the beauty, culture and hospitality of our outports while doing so little to ensure these same communities have the basic infrastructure and services they need to remain viable?” she asks.

Lerman will be running against incumbent MHA and Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services Charlene Johnson, andLiberal candidate Barry Snow of Ochre Pit Cove

NDP associate president Kathleen Connors says the announcement of Lerman’s nomination “means the New Democratic Party has 23 candidates in place, with nominations currently open in several other districts and more to be called in the coming weeks.”
