Two wins for West Side
Grant Tobin connects for five hits in one game
In Carbonear Molson slo-pitch softball league action, Butt’s Esso took the first game Thursday, Aug. 18, edging Rock Hard Construction 12-10, on the strength of home runs from Jeff and Blair Parsons and Dennis King, leading the way for the win.
Top batters for the winner were: Jeff Parsons with three hits, including a home run, and Chris Parsons with three hits. Blair Parsons had two, including a home run. Dennis King had two hits, one of which was a home run. Jody Doyle, Stephen Peach, Chad Parsons and Gerard Griffin had two hits each.
Gerard Griffin tossed the win for Butt’s, while Stephen King suffered the loss.
Top batters for Rock Hard were Bradley Harris with three hits, and Brad Gallant with two.
West Side kicks Butt’s
In the final game of the week, also played Thursday, Aug. 18, West Side Charlies downed Butt’s Esso 28-19, on the strength of home runs from Mike Whiteway, Grant Tobin and John Jacques.
Top batters for West Side were John Jacques with five hits, including a home run; Paul O’Leary with four hits; and Roy Flight, Sam White and Paul R. O’Leary with three hits each. Mike Whiteway had two hits, one of which was a home run. Grant Tobin had two hits, including a home run. Mike Squires had two.
Sam White tossed the pitching win for Charlies, while Gerard Griffin was tagged with the loss.
Top batters for Butt’s were: Blair Parsons with three hits, including a home run; and Charl Clarke and Jody Doyle with three each. Ryan and Chad Parsons, Cory Clarke, Dennis King and Gerard Griffin had two hits each.
Stephen Peach hit a home run in a losing cause.
West Side upends Rock Hard
In the first match played Monday, Aug. 22, West Side Charlies upended Rock Hard Construction 16-13 on the strength of five hits from Grant Tobin.
Grant Tobin was the top batter for West Side with five hits. Roy Flight had two, including a homer. Tim Brake had two, one of which was a homer. Cecil Taylor, Mike Squires and Sam White had two hits each.
Sam White was credited with the win, while Stephen Peach suffered the pitching loss.
Randy Moores was the top batter for Rock Hard Construction, with three hits. David King and Keith Peddle had two hits each. Trevor Baldwin hit a home run.
Rock Hard edges Butt’s
In the second and final match of Monday night’s double-header, Rock Hard Construction edged Butt’s Esso 27-26, in an extra inning on the strength of four hits each from Ryan Dean, Jim King and Trevor Baldwin.
Bradley Harris and Roy Flight had three hits each. Keith Peddle and Paul O’Leary added two hits each in helping with the win.
Sam White tossed the win for Rock Hard, while Stephen Peach suffered the loss.
Charle Clarke was the top batter for Butt’s, with six hits, including a homer. Blair Parsons had five hits, one of which was a home run. Ryan Parsons had four hits. Cory Clarke had three hits, including a home run. Stephen Peach, Dennis King, Jody Doyle and Chris Parsons had three hits each.
