West Side, Butt’s each win pair; Rock Hard loses two
West Side Charlie’s blasted Rock Hard Construction 25-10, in the first match of the doubleheader played Thursday, Sept. 1 in Carbonear Molson slo-pitch softball action.
West Side took the game on the strength of three hits each from top batters Paul O’Leary and Tim Brake.
Mike Whiteway had two hits, including a home run. Grant Tobin and Sam White had two hits apiece. Roy Flight had one in helping with the win.
Top batters for Rock Hard were Gord King and Trevor Smith, with two hits each. Bradley Harris and Jim King had one each in a losing cause.
Second loss for Rock Hard
In the final game of the week on Thursday Sept. 1, Butt’s Esso handed Rock Hard Construction its second defeat of the night. Butt’s took the match 22-15.
Top batters for Butt’s were Jeff Parsons with four hits, one of which was a home run; Chad Parsons, four hits; Steven Peach, Dennis King and Gerard Griffin, three each; Ryan Parsons, two, including a homer; and Cory Clarke, two, including a home run. Charl Clarke, Blair Parsons and Shane Lambert had two hits each. Chris Parsons had one hit in helping with the win.
Gerard Griffin tossed the pitching win, while Jim King suffered the loss.
Brad Gallant was the top batter for Rock Hard with three hits. Jim King and Keith Peddle had two each. Gord King, Trevor Smith, Trevor Baldwin and Bradley Harris had one hit apiece in a losing cause.
Butt’s edges West Side
In the opening game on Monday Sept. 5, Butt’s Esso edged West Side Charlie’s 11-9.
Jeff Parsons was the top hitter for Butt’s with three hits, including a homer. Charl Clarke and Dennis King had three hits apiece. Luke Hogan and Blair Parsons had two each. Chad Parsons, Chris Parsons and Jody Doyle added singles. Shane Lambert hit a home run in helping with the victory.

In a high-scoring final match of the week, West Side Charlie’s pounded Rock Hard Construction 35-14. West Side took the game on the strength of home runs from Roy Flight and Mike Whiteway, leading the way for the win.
Top batters for West Side were Roy Flight with four hits, including a homer, and Mike Whiteway, four hits, including a homer. Paul O’Leary and Paul R. O’Leary had three hits apiece. Tim Brake and Phil Hurley had two each. Grant Tobin and Sam White had one each in helping with the win.
Sam White tossed the pitching win on the mound, while Jody Doyle suffered the loss.
