Entries down slightly
Dog Shows still attracting support from community
Some 75 dog owners brought about 86 dogs to the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbour Grace over the Labour Day Weekend to take part in four separate dog shows Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4.
Fay Andrews of Harbour Grace is president of the Conception Bay Kennel Club, which is now into its 52nd year of hosting the shows at the stadium.
Andrews said entries were down slightly this year, “ but all shows went very well, and there was a lot of support from the community.”
The decline in entries didn’t surprise the organizer, who noted entries in dog shows are down across the country. Considering the entry fees, rental fees, travel and hotel costs, Andrews said, “it’s a very expensive sport.”
She estimated the shows attracted about 500 visitors to the stadium over the two-day event.
While the numbers of people were about the same as last year, she noted there were not as many dogs.
Owners brought their dogs from around Newfoundland and Labrador as well as Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario to compete before judges from Ontario and Saskatchewan.
The following are the complete results of the dog shows:
