West Side Charlies advances to final; Rock Hard and Butt’s Esso play off for finals berth
With West Side Charlies advancing to the final, Butt’s Esso squared off with Rock Hard Construction in the first game of their best of five semi-finals series, Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Butt’s Esso drew first blood in the series by putting a beatdown on Rock Hard to the tune of 12-3.
Leading the offensive attack for the winners was Stephen Peach, who contributed two hits, including a home run, and Jody Doyle, who matched Peach with a two hit, one homer effort. Blair Parsons, Cory Clarke and Chad Parsons picked up two hits.
Ryan Dean, Brad Gallant, Gord King, Randy Moores and Bradley Harris each had one hit in the loss.
Gerard Griffin picked up the win, while Sam White took the loss.
Butt’s Esso lead the series 1-0.
Bounce back effort
After only scoring three runs in the series opener, Rock Hard Construction’s offense woke up, pushing 13 runs across to narrowly beat Butt’s Esso by one run, 13-12, in Game 2 to even up the series at the Carbonear Recreation Complex Tuesday.
Pacing the Rock Hard offensive explosion were Brad Gallant, three hits, and Jim King and Randy Moores, each with two hits.
Stephen Peach lead the way for Butt’s Esso. He picked up four hits including a home run. Charl Clarke, Blair Parsons, Jeff Parsons, Chad Parsons, Luke Hogan, Shane Lambert and Chris Parsons each chipped in two hits in defeat.
Sam White toed the rubber in the win, while Gerard Griffin took the loss.
Series tied 1-1.
Taking the lead
There was not much defence in the third game of the semi-finals, Rock Hard Construction upend Butt’s Esso, 15-13, on Sept. 14.
Brad Gallant and Jim King were both prolific at the plate, collecting three hits. Ryan Dean and Trevor Smith contributed two hits, while Keith Peddle chipped in one hit.
Butt’s Esso’s offense was lead by Stephen Peach, Blair Parsons and Chad Parsons with three hits apiece. Charl Clarke showed some power, belting two hits, one of them a home run. Dennis King, Chris Parsons and Cory Clarke had two hits each. Jeff Parsons had one home run to go along with another two hits.
Sam White tossed the win, while Gerard Griffin picked up the loss.
Series is 2-1 for Rock Hard.
Butt’s Esso strikes back
In the second game on Wednesday, Butt’s doubled up Rock Hard 16-8 to even up their best-of-five series.
Leading the attack for Butt’s were Jeff Parsons, Chard Parsons, Cory Clarke and Chris Parsons with three hits each. One of Parsons’ hits was a home run. Charl Clarke had two hits, including a home run. Stephen Peach, Blair Parsons, Dennis King and Jody Doyle all collected two hits.
Pacing Rock Hard in the loss were Ryan Dean, Jim King and Roy Flight with two hits each.
Gerard Griffin ran his record on the mound to 2-2 with the win, while Sam White slipped to 2-2 in the loss.
Series tied 2-2
Game 5 of the series was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 19, with the winner advancing to the championship round against West Side Charlies.
