Bulldogs fail to repeat
Come up short at national midget qualifier in Corner Brook
The Conception Bay North Bulldogs headed into the national midget baseball qualifier at Jubilee Field in Corner Brook as the returning Newfoundland champions.
It was a title that will not heading back to Upper Island Cove this year.
The tournament, held Sept. 9-11, kicked off Friday evening with a tilt between the Bulldogs and perennial favourite St. John’s Capitals. The CBN squad lost a close affair, 3-2. Next up was the hometown team, Corner Brook Barons.
Offense was again hard to come by as the Bulldogs fell in defeat 10-5.
In their tournament finale, the Bulldogs found their offense, and put a beating on the Gander Flyers, 15-5.
In an interesting storyline, Gander’s Robert Stockley and Jacob Lane came face to face with the team they went away to the 2011 Midget National Baseball Tour- nament with.
In the championship game, the host Barons edged the capital city team, 2-0.
