Trinity Conception Fall Fair set for this weekend
The 53rd Annual Trinity Conception Agriculture and Homecrafts Fall Fair gets underway this Thursday, Sept. 29 and runs until Sunday, Oct. 2.
While there are other agrifoods and homecrafts exhibitions held in other parts of the province, committee chairwoman Dales Coombs pointed out that, "we are the only one which also hosts the Miss Newfoundland and Labrador Pageant." The Trinity Conception Fair has been sponsoring that event since 1959.
Coombs said they are expecting approximately 70 local home crafters and artisans to exhibit their works this year, which will include everything from home grown vegetables to homemade jewellery and stone work.
Judges will be on hand to review the entries and prizes will go to the best in show in various categories.
She said the Newfoundland Federation of Agriculture will be bringing in some "new interactive games," for the kids this year.
Mentioning the spelling bee, scheduled for Saturday, Coombs noted, "this will be the third year for that event."
As part of this year's entertainment, Danny Williams - not the former premier, but a young Carbonear man of the same name - will be at the fair with his balloon art, face painting and air brush tattoos, "which are always popular with teens," according to the fair committee spokeswoman.
School tours have become a popular feature of the fair in recent years. The chairwoman said students from primary and elementary schools throughout the Trinity Conception region will be at the stadium Thursday, Sept. 29 and Friday, Sept. 30 to take in the petting farm, baby chicks and other attractions for the children.
Miss Teen Trinity Conception will be crowned Friday night Sept. 30.
The Miss Newfoundland and Labrador Pageant will begin Saturday night, with the crowning scheduled for the closing night of the fair, Sunday, Oct. 2.
Coombs said there will be a "giant parade" through Harbour Grace Saturday afternoon.
The annual Blueberry Harvest Run will take place Sunday morning, with the baby and prince and princess pageants scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
While the events and activities continue inside the stadium the popular Thomas Amusements will be set up outside for the duration of the fair.
