Coach selection process flawed, says Seymour
Bay Arena minor to review how it picks all-star coaches
A long-time hockey coach and educator in Conception Bay North is questioning the process by which Bay Arena minor selects coaches for its all-star teams.
Geoff Seymour of Shearstown was passed over for coaching positions at both the atom A and atom B level, and is now speaking out over what he calls blatant nepotism, dishonesty and distasteful criteria in the selection process.
“ This isn’t a case of sour grapes,” Seymour told The Compass last week. “I don’t mind not being selected for something, if it’s done right.
“But when something is blatantly done this dishonest, I take exception with it.”
The president of the association, Brian Drover, said the executive will review its selection process, and “ revise as required,” but he stands behind the decisions made by the association.
“At the end of the day, we listened to the concerns of Mr. Seymour,” said Drover. “ We are taking into consideration his views and comments, and we’re going to look at how the process is going to be done.”
