CBN skaters back in action
Have successful start to 2011-12 season
The Conception Bay North Figure Skating Club has kicked off a new season with some impressive results at a pair of competitions in recent weeks.
The club, which uses arenas in Bay Roberts and Harbour Grace, sent three skaters to Summer Skate 2011, which was held Aug. 20 at Twin Rinks in St. John’s. The girls competed in the pre-juvenile women’s division, and swept the medals. Maya Petten won gold, McKenna Mercer was second, and Laura Keefe placed third.
Jenna Efford of Bay Roberts, who skates with the Mount Pearl club, finished fourth.
The second competition, the 2011 Rebecca Pack Memorial Friendship Skate, took place at the Glacier in Mount Pearl on Sept. 24.
The following is a summary of how CBN Skaters faired at that event:
• Pre-preliminary II women (eight years-of-age) — Julia Keefe, second; Brianna Russell, third; and Emily Dawson, fourth.
• Pre-preliminary II women (nine years-of-age) — Helena Churchill, first; and Rachel Drover, third.
• Junior bronze women — ToniLynn Parsons, first.
• Pre-juvenile women — McKenna Mercer, first; Maya Petten, third; and Laura Keefe, fourth.
Note: Jenna Efford of Bay Roberts, who skates with Mount Pearl, finished third.
Club officials say several skaters are preparing for Skate NL sectionals, which will take place in November in Torbay. Competitions are also scheduled for January and February.
