Co­ley’s Point Pri­mary to get new roof

Co­ley’s Point Pri­mary school in Bay Roberts is get­ting a new roof.

The provin­cial govern­ment an­nounced Dec. 8 that a $444,022 con­tract had been awarded to NL Rub­ber Coat­ing Corp. of St. John’s to re­place the roof.

The project is ex­pected to be com­pleted by Septem­ber 2012.

This lat­est project at Co­ley’s Point Pri­mary brings the to­tal in­vest­ment in re­cent im­prove­ments to the school to more than $591,000, said Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Clyde Jack­man.

“This an­nounce­ment con­tin­ues to show this govern­ment’s com­mit­ment to up­grad­ing school in­fra­struc­ture within the prov­ince,” added Port de Grave MHA Glen Lit­tle­john.

“The in­stal­la­tion of a new roof at Co­ley’s Point Pri­mary, along with pre­vi­ous im­prove­ments, will en­sure a qual­ity ed­u­ca­tional environment for our chil­dren and their teach­ers.”

A sim­i­lar con­tract is ex­pected to be awarded in the com­ing days for a roof re­place­ment at Holy Re­deemer Ele­men­tary in Spa­niard’s Bay. The clos­ing date for sub­mis­sion of bids was Nov. 17.

Since 2004, the provin­cial govern­ment has ap­proved more than $504 mil­lion for school in­fra­struc­ture. Nine new schools have opened, five more are in var­i­ous stages of plan­ning or con­struc­tion, 11 ma­jor ex­ten­sion and ren­o­va­tion projects have been com­pleted, and seven more are un­der­way or in the plan­ning stages.
