“What are my favourite Christmas memories? I’d have to say that these days I have an artificial tree, and that for me it’s probably a necessity.

“See, I’m not much of an outdoors type. Send me in the woods with an axe or a saw, and the ambulance better be a four- wheel drive. Still, when my father, my sister, and I went in to look for a perfect tree that was always a great time. Inevitably, my father would pick out not a tree, but the top of a tree. He always did that even though, from experience, we knew it wasn’t going to end well.

“These days my favourite thing is having the kids go on quests to find their big presents. We don’t make it easy as they have to follow clues and riddles from our tree, to the neighbour’s living room, to our shed, and who knows where else? They get a laugh, and we love the looks on their faces as they solve the hunt.”
