7. A summer of traffic disruptions

Motorists in the Bay Roberts area will likely remember the summer and fall of 2011 for the challenges of navigating along the busy Conception Bay Highway, which is the main thoroughfare through the town’s commercial district.

For the second year in a row, construction companies were busy installing new and upgraded sewer infrastructure along the street, which sees thousands of vehicles each day.

The delays and detours resulted in some frayed nerves for motorists, and some business owners along the street also complained about lost revenue.

Town officials have estimated the total cost of the project at roughly $10 million.

The Conception Bay Highway through Bay Roberts was a maze of construction and detours this past summer.
