5. Extended closure for Carbonear pool

The Compass - - FRONT PAGE -

Users of the Carbonear Swimming Pool were finally able to get back into the water in late June following a prolonged closure of the regional facility.

The building was closed in mid- January for an extensive upgrade to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Officials initially stated the pool would reopen in March, but the $1 million project was plagued by delays, and the doors weren’t reopened until June 22.

The 37-year-old facility attracts an estimated 35,000 visitations annually.

Rob Button is recreation and tourism director for the Town of Carbonear. He is pictured here at the official reopening of the swimming pool in late July.
