5. Extended closure for Carbonear pool
Users of the Carbonear Swimming Pool were finally able to get back into the water in late June following a prolonged closure of the regional facility.
The building was closed in mid- January for an extensive upgrade to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Officials initially stated the pool would reopen in March, but the $1 million project was plagued by delays, and the doors weren’t reopened until June 22.
The 37-year-old facility attracts an estimated 35,000 visitations annually.
