A massive investment into health and education infrastructure in Carbonear was poised to change the landscape of the Conception Bay North town.

The provincial government confirmed it would spend roughly $108 million on a new 250-bed long-term care facility, which will be located just west of Carbonear General Hospital. And construction has also started on a new school to replace Davis Elementary. That project will cost roughly $16 million.

The long-term care facility is scheduled to be completed by late 2014, while the school is expected to be ready before the end of 2013.

This artist’s rendering of the new long-term care facility gives an aerial view of what the new facility will look like in relation to the Carbonear General Hospital at left.
