4. Boy dies after falling from cliff
The entire province was saddened and shocked following a tragic accident in Bay Roberts that resulted in the death of 11year-old Christopher Randolph Davis.
The boy, who lived in Cambridge, Ont., and was visiting relatives in Bay Roberts, fell over a 30-metre cliff in an area of Bay Roberts East known as Jones Head. Rescuers had to use a boat to recover the boy’s body. The incident prompted a debate about safety in the area, with Christopher’s parents, in a letter to the town council, suggesting the death was preventable if there were warning signs in the area.
Council later agreed to post warning signs.
