Follett, Roberts rolling high
Gord Robers barely managed to escape with the lead in the men’s high single in the 50-plus Bowling League at te Old Mill Lanes in Bay Roberts on Feb.3 after bowling a 222, giving him a one point lead over runners up Gerald Bradbury and Walter Parmiter, who both scored 221.
Ed Brown scored a third place finish with a score of 192.
Kay Follett again topped the women’s side when she bowled a 187 in the ladies’ high single.
Verna Bowering took second spot with aq 164, while Marg Bradbury rounded out the top three with a 158.
The men’s high triple was not as close as the singles as Roberts, with a score of 585, finished with an 83 point lead over his closest challenger Gerald Bradbury, who scored a 502.
Don Snow finished below Bradbury with a 459.
On the women’s side, Kay Follett took top spot in the ladies’ high triple after she scored a 470.
Verna Bowering and Mary Tucker did battle for second spot, with Tucker narrowly winning out with a score of 439 to Bowering’s 438.
Strange Bunch topped the team standings with 32 points, while Don’s Miracles took second spot with 30 points.
The rest of the teams leaderboard looks like this — Tailenders, 27 points; Bubbleheads, 27 points; Bright Lights, 25 points; Blueberries, 23 points.
