February is a special month for Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide. Each year, both youth organizations celebrate Feb. 22, the birthday of the movement’s founder, Lord Robert Baden-powell and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-powell. This year, Scout- Guide Week opened Feb. 19, and continues until Feb. 26. In Conception Bay North, three units, located in Carbonear, Harbour Grace and Victoria/salmon, joined with municipal leaders last week to sign an official proclamation, recognizing Scout-guide Week.

Harbour Grace Mayor Don Coombs is surrounded by members and leaders of the Harbour Grace Sparks, Brownies and Girl Guides. Carbonear Mayor Sam Slade helped members of the Guiding movement in his town launch Scout-guide Week 2012.
