Western picks up two wins in re­cre­ational ac­tion

Western Petroleum dou­bled Co­ley’s Point Fish­eries 8-4 in Sun­day Night Re­cre­ational Hockey League ac­tion at the S.W. Moores Me­mo­rial Sta­dium in Har­bour Grace, Feb. 5.

Lead­ing the of­fen­sive at­tack for Western was Scott Cleary, who net­ted a hat trick. Steve Haire also had a multi­goal night with a pair. Bob White, Jim King and Paul Sul­li­van picked up sin­gles.

Randy Har­ris had two goals to pace the Co­ley’s Point of­fen­sive charge. Kevin Ben­nett and Gary Brushett each had one goal in the loss.

Sam White was be­tween the pipes for the win­ners, while Shel­don Hur­dle suf­fered the loss.

On Feb. 12, Co­ley’s Point got back in the win col­umn with a hard fought 7-5 vic­tory over Brake’s Heat­ing.

Frank Fin­layson had a hat trick for the vic­tors, while Gary Brushett picked up a pair of goals. Kevin Ben­nett and Matthew His­cock had a goal each.

Matt Rogers and Tim Brake lead the charge for the Brake’s with two goals apiece. Matthew Har­ris had the other goal for the losers.

Chris Do­ran back­stopped Co­ley’s Point to the win, while Steve Burke picked up the loss.

In a de­fen­sive bat­tle, Western nar­rowly edged Brake’s, dou­bling them by a score of 4-2.

Western was lead by Bob Lynch, who had a pair of goals. Kevin Ben­nett and Dave Squires had sin­gles in vic­tory.

Brake’s got goals from Garry Mccarthy and Lee­land An­der­son.

Shel­don Hur­dle picked up the win, and Sam White suf­fered the loss.
