Western picks up two wins in recreational action
Western Petroleum doubled Coley’s Point Fisheries 8-4 in Sunday Night Recreational Hockey League action at the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbour Grace, Feb. 5.
Leading the offensive attack for Western was Scott Cleary, who netted a hat trick. Steve Haire also had a multigoal night with a pair. Bob White, Jim King and Paul Sullivan picked up singles.
Randy Harris had two goals to pace the Coley’s Point offensive charge. Kevin Bennett and Gary Brushett each had one goal in the loss.
Sam White was between the pipes for the winners, while Sheldon Hurdle suffered the loss.
On Feb. 12, Coley’s Point got back in the win column with a hard fought 7-5 victory over Brake’s Heating.
Frank Finlayson had a hat trick for the victors, while Gary Brushett picked up a pair of goals. Kevin Bennett and Matthew Hiscock had a goal each.
Matt Rogers and Tim Brake lead the charge for the Brake’s with two goals apiece. Matthew Harris had the other goal for the losers.
Chris Doran backstopped Coley’s Point to the win, while Steve Burke picked up the loss.
In a defensive battle, Western narrowly edged Brake’s, doubling them by a score of 4-2.
Western was lead by Bob Lynch, who had a pair of goals. Kevin Bennett and Dave Squires had singles in victory.
Brake’s got goals from Garry Mccarthy and Leeland Anderson.
Sheldon Hurdle picked up the win, and Sam White suffered the loss.
