Leery of the NDP

The Compass - - OPINION -

We must exercise caution and use wisdom when being swayed politically, especially as it relates to the New Democratic Party (NDP).

The NDP is a socialist party, but the word “democratic” in their name would lead people to think this is a good thing. I’m not so sure.

Our freedoms are at stake, whether we want to believe it or not. Just recently on CBCS Doc Zone, when a group of our Newfoundland and Labrador teens travelled to Beaumont Hamel, a young woman, standing under the Caribou, sang the Ode to Newfoundland. The whole contingent was from Canada, bearing our Canadian flag, and the words come to mind from our country’s anthem: “God keep our land, glorious and free.”

We mustn’t forget the motto on our own provincial coat of arms, “To seek first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33). We must do all we can to actively preserve our Godgiven freedoms and always vote for a party that honours that.

Let’s not forget the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.
