CBN athletes receive scholarships
Two athletes from the Conception Bay North region have been selected as scholarship recipients as a part of the 2012 Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program.
Garrett Mercer of Bay Roberts and Victoria Ralph of Carbonear will be benefit from being selected as a part of 19 scholarships given out at a reception at the Johnson Geo Centre in St. John’s, May 4.
Mercer was selected for his success in the sport of 5-pin bowling, while Ralph was chosen for her wrestling exploits.
“These scholarship winners are true examples of excellence in sport,” Recreation Minister Derrick Dalley in a news release. “It is very important to recognize their accomplishments, both academic and athletic, and to encourage them in their chosen sport.”
The scholarship program is designed to provide amateur athletes enrolled in post secondary education financial assistance needed to help offset the cost of training and competition.
“We are very proud of these recipients,” added Sport Newfoundland and Labrador president Doug Fowler in a release. “These athletes, coaches and officials work hard to promote their sports and these scholarships will help them continue their pursuit of excellent in their athletics.”
Sport Newfoundland and Labrador represents over 55 provincial sport organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador by providing programs and services in the promotion of sport and physical activity.
