Bay Roberts com­pany wins achieve­ment award

At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors rec­og­nized for pro­mot­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal prod­ucts

C a s c a d e s T i s su e G r o u p an­nounced late last month that At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors Lim­ited in Bay Roberts had re­ceived an achieve­ment award in hon­our of its strong part­ner­ship and ded­i­ca­tion to fur­ther­ing Cas­cades’ en­vi­ron­men­tal prefer­able prod­ucts.

By of­fer­ing to their com­mer­cial and in­dus­trial clients tis­sue pa­per prod­ucts made from 100 per­cent re­cy­cled fi­bre, in­stead of vir­gin fi­bre, At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors avoided re­leas­ing 74,333 kilo­grams of car­bon diox­ide, the equiv­a­lent of 25 cars’ emis­sions, in 2011.

“The sup­port from At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors is in­dis­pens­able,” said Suzanne Blanchet, Cas­cades Tis­sue Group CEO.

“By hon­our­ing them with a cer­tifi­cate, we want to rec­og­nize their con­tri­bu­tion in low­er­ing our en­vi­ron­men­tal foot­print, and in in­form­ing our buy­ers and users on the im­por­tance of sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment.”

At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors Lim­ited started dis­tribut­ing Cas­cades Tis­sue Group away-fromhome prod­ucts nearly a decade ago.

Cas­cades Tis­sue Group, a di­vi­sion of Cas­cades, Inc., is the fourth largest man­u­fac­turer of tis­sue pa­per in North Amer­ica. Founded in 1964, Cas­cades pro­duces, con­verts and mar­kets pack­ag­ing and tis­sue prod­ucts that are com­posed mainly of re­cy­cled fi­bres.

The com­pany has more than 12,000 em­ploy­ees, who work in more than 100 units lo­cated in North Amer­ica and Europe.

Ac­cord­ing to the com­pany’s web­site, At­lantic Gro­cery Dis­trib­u­tors Ltd. (AGD) is a 100 per cent New­found­land and Labrador pri­vately owned and op­er­ated whole­sale/food ser­vice dis­tri­bu­tion com­pany.

AGD is the sup­plier of choice for ap­prox­i­mately 200 fran­chise stores op­er­at­ing un­der the re­tail ban­ners of Foodex, Food­stop, Value Gro­cer, and At­lantic Con­ve­nience, as well as in­de­pen­dent gro­cers through­out the prov­ince. The com­pany also sup­plies and op­er­ates three cor­po­rately owned full ser­vice su­per­mar­kets and two restau­rants in Con­cep­tion Bay North.

Pow­ell’s Su­per­mar­kets have been in busi­ness for over 60 years, com­pet­ing against all ma­jor re­tail op­er­a­tions.

The com­pany op­er­ates a fleet of al­most 40 mod­ern reefer trucks and trail­ers, and has re­ported sales in ex­cess of $100 mil­lion an­nu­ally.
