Bay Roberts company wins achievement award
Atlantic Grocery Distributors recognized for promoting environmental products
C a s c a d e s T i s su e G r o u p announced late last month that Atlantic Grocery Distributors Limited in Bay Roberts had received an achievement award in honour of its strong partnership and dedication to furthering Cascades’ environmental preferable products.
By offering to their commercial and industrial clients tissue paper products made from 100 percent recycled fibre, instead of virgin fibre, Atlantic Grocery Distributors avoided releasing 74,333 kilograms of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of 25 cars’ emissions, in 2011.
“The support from Atlantic Grocery Distributors is indispensable,” said Suzanne Blanchet, Cascades Tissue Group CEO.
“By honouring them with a certificate, we want to recognize their contribution in lowering our environmental footprint, and in informing our buyers and users on the importance of sustainable development.”
Atlantic Grocery Distributors Limited started distributing Cascades Tissue Group away-fromhome products nearly a decade ago.
Cascades Tissue Group, a division of Cascades, Inc., is the fourth largest manufacturer of tissue paper in North America. Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres.
The company has more than 12,000 employees, who work in more than 100 units located in North America and Europe.
According to the company’s website, Atlantic Grocery Distributors Ltd. (AGD) is a 100 per cent Newfoundland and Labrador privately owned and operated wholesale/food service distribution company.
AGD is the supplier of choice for approximately 200 franchise stores operating under the retail banners of Foodex, Foodstop, Value Grocer, and Atlantic Convenience, as well as independent grocers throughout the province. The company also supplies and operates three corporately owned full service supermarkets and two restaurants in Conception Bay North.
Powell’s Supermarkets have been in business for over 60 years, competing against all major retail operations.
The company operates a fleet of almost 40 modern reefer trucks and trailers, and has reported sales in excess of $100 million annually.
