Planting on Arbor Day
June 1 was Arbor Day in Newfoundland and Labrador. This event focuses on trees and the role they play in the province’s environment, and coincided with Environment Week, which took place May 30-June 5. The customary observance is to plant a tree, and that’s exactly what happened in Spaniard’s Bay and Bay Roberts. This initiative was started in 2009 by Landscape Newfoundland and Labrador to bring awareness to the importance of green spaces in urban and rural areas.
