Carbonear slo-pitch action underway
The 2012 Carbonear men’s slopitch league kicked off its 35th season with a tilt between East Coast Concrete and Butt’s Esso, June 11 at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
East Coast doubled up Butt’s by a score of 14-6.
Leading the offensive charge for the winners were Gordon King and Mike Squires, who picked up three hits apiece. Jamie Pike contributed two hits, including a home run, while Brad Gallant, Chris Parsons, Peter Tuck and Sam White picked up two hits.
Blair Parsons, Dennis King, Cory Clarke, Paul Sullivan and Brandon Parsons picked up two hits each for the losers. Jody Doyle, Jason Power and Marty Tilley each had a single.
Peter Tuck toed the rubber in victory and Gerard Griffin suffered the defeat.
East Coast 7, West Side 5
In the second game of the opening day doubleheader, East Coast picked its second win of the season with a close 7-5 victory over West Side Charlie’s.
Brendan McCarthy had a strong night at the plate for East Coast, picking up three hits, while Bradley Harris, Chris Parsons and Jamie Pike at two hits apiece. Brad Gallant and Matt Powell picked up a lone hit each.
Roy Flight had three hits in the loss. Tim Brake and Sam White chipped in with one hit each.
Peter Tuck pitched the victory, while Sam White suffered the loss.
Butt’s 29, West Side 5
Butt’s laid a beating on West Side’s in the first meeting of the season between the two clubs on June 14.
Everyone in Butt ’s lineup picked up a hit, lead by Dennis King who went perfect at the plate and picked up five hits. Marty Tilley, Charl Clarke and Blair Parsons each contributed four hits at the dish. Cory Clarke, Ryan Dean and Keith Peddle had three hits each, while Trevor Baldwin, Mat Davis, Jason Power and Jef f Parsons had two hits each.
Roy Flight, Paul Sullivan and Sam White lead the way for West Side’s with two hits a piece.
Gerard Griffin picked up the victory, and Scott Cleary was saddled with the loss.
Butt’s 9, East Coast 6
In the second game, Butt’s avenged a previous loss to East Coast with a 9-6 victory.
Leading the way in victory for Butt’s was Blair Parsons, who picked up three hits. Cory Clarke, Marty Tilly, Dennis King, Jason Power and Jeff Parsons all continued their hot streak, picking up two hits each.
Bradley Harris had four hits in defeat, while Jamie Pike chipped in with three hits, including a home run.
Gerard Griffin picked up his second win of the night, while Sam White dropped the decision.
