More regional talks planned
Harbour Grace to host meeting about proposed regional arena
Officials with the Town of Harbour Grace have plans to host another meeting with municipal leaders from neigbouring towns this week to discuss the concept of a regional stadium.
The meeting is set for July 4, but officials say it is not open to the public.
At the meeting, representatives from the municipalities will have their chance to speak their mind on the proposed facility, whether they will be giving their support and any fabrication ideas that they may have in mind.
All of this will be taking place as Harbour Grace and the provincial government continue to look at the top three proposals for a primary consultant for the project, according to town manager Lester Forward.
“The consultant will sit down with the town to discuss design and site selection,” he said. “This is just Step 1 in the process.”
While the winning proposal will be for the primary consultant, Forward said there is a chance there could be more consultants hired for the project.
The names of the three proposals that ranked the highest for the town are still unknown, with Harbour Grace wanting to wait until they could meet with the other municipalities in the region before revealing them.
The town also has to send off a letter to government detailing their selection and then await government approval.
