LAY­MAN, Patrick J. Sr. — Passed peace­fully away at his res­i­dence on Wed­nes­day, July 11, 2012, Patrick J. Lay­man Sr. of Ochre Pit Cove, age 74 years. Pre­de­ceased by son: Patrick James Jr.; par­ents: Mike Joe and An­gela; brother: Paul. Pat was a well known fish­er­man on the Avalon Penin­sula, re­tired po­lice of­fi­cer, mem­ber of the New­found­land Con­stab­u­lary, mem­ber of the Bran­don po­lice force, in­volved in pol­i­tics all his life, mem­ber of the Mil­i­tary Po­lice, good neigh­bour and friend to all. Left to mourn, wife: June of 54 years; three sons: John (Michelle), Old Per­li­can, Dan (Trina), Woodstock, ON and Bruce ( Jen), Ochre Pit Cove; one daugh­ter: Patricia (Mike) Cavasin, Al­berta; nine grand­chil­dren; three great­grand­chil­dren; one sis­ter: Mary ( Jim) Bab­stock, Scar­bor­ough, ON; five broth­ers: Peter (Betty), Ochre Pit Cove, Mike (Yvonne), St. John’s, Ted (Claire) and Joe (Marie), both of Gull Is­land and Ron (Ellen), Cam­bridge, ON; brother-in-law: Ray ( Joan) Park, ON; a num­ber of nieces, neph­ews and other rel­a­tives and friends. Rested at Noel’s Funeral Home, Main High­way, Western Bay. Fr. Pio Sum­bilon con­ducted the Funeral Mass on Mon­day, July 16 at Cor­pus Christi Ro­man Catholic Church, North­ern Bay. In­ter­ment took place in Cor­pus Christi Ro­man Catholic Ceme­tery, North­ern Bay. Do­na­tions in his mem­ory may be made to The Patrick J. Lay­man Sr. Memo­rial Fund. PITTS, James ‘Jim’ — age 75, passed away July 9, 2012, in Car­bon­ear Hospi­tal af­ter bat­tling can­cer. He is sur­vived by his wife, Anita Joan (Os­mond), chil­dren: Karen (Craig Gosse); Paula (Gord Hynes); Tina (Em­manuel Jones), David (Sharon An­thony); and Denise (Cory Frad­sham), 10 grand­chil­dren, a spe­cial aunt and un­cle, Wil­liam and Ma­bel Bick­ford, broth­ers and sis­ter and their fam­i­lies in On­tario and British Columbia, and a wide range of fam­ily and friends in Ma­hers, Bell Is­land, Bay Roberts, and Florida. Cre­ma­tion has taken place. In­ter­ment will be for im­me­di­ate fam­ily.
